Collaboratively we can teach pupils that democracy is not just a concept to be learned about in the classroom; it is a lifestyle to be applied. Our aim is to give pupils real-world experience in being effective citizens. They will have an opportunity to learn about the democratic citizenship in our community or on a national level, organise and attend educational activities together – such as a Parliament Day to attend a live debate.
To improve their abilities, we intend to support children to analyse information, engage in dialogue about political issues and come to a consensus for improvements within our community– in other words, develop their critical thinking skills. All of these things are the bedrocks of democracy.
