Nursery to Reception Transition

Transition: Nursery to Reception

Here at Colham Manor we know that the transition from nursery to reception is a significant milestone in early childhood education, as it bridges the gap between informal play-based learning and a more structured educational setting. The transition from nursery to reception, when well-supported, lays a solid foundation for lifelong learning, emotional resilience, and social skills, making it a crucial step in laying the foundations for later learning.

We want our children to feel excited as they start school. We want them to be inspired and to look forward to the challenges that Reception has to offer.  Getting this transition right is so important for all parties involved. Successful transition between Nursery/Home and Reception is essential for the wellbeing of the children. Get it right and they flourish and become passionate learners right in front of your eyes. Therefore, we ensure that transition is not a top-down approach whereby Reception classes are ‘formal’ to ready children for starting school but are instead based on the developmental stages and needs of each cohort moving on as well as in line with our Early Years vision.

Our practitioners work in collaboration with previous settings, families and teachers to ensure appropriate provision is in place when children start Reception.

Please click the stars above for more guidance on how we can all support the transition for children starting school to ensure they continue to Aspire, Achieve & Thrive.
