Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Wales visits Colham Manor

We were honoured to receive an extra special visit from Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales! During her visit to the Children’s Centre as patron of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance, she shook hands with staff and spoke to three-year-old Akeem from our Nursery.

In an incredibly sweet conversation, Her Royal Highness introduced herself as Catherine and asked him if had a poppy of his own. Akeem said he "hadn't found one" yet and reached out to touch the poppy on her jacket. The Princess asked: "Would you like mine? You can have my poppy,". Akeem took the poppy while the Princess of Wales explained its significance. "It’s remembering all the soldiers who died in the war," she added. "There you go, that’s for you. Look after it!"

What a fantastic experience!

Meeting Prime Minister Boris Johnson - Raising Aspirations

Our Head Pupils, Bebe and Aryan, welcomed a very special visit to Colham Manor - the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson! He chatted with Reception children as they carried out a painting activity together and was later interviewed by our Pupil Parliament. The Prime Minister admitted afterwards that the children had asked him some very challenging questions about the political systems that govern our country. What a fantastic opportunity for our children to experience!

Culture in the Classroom - The Turing Scheme international trip to Barcelona

The Turing Scheme recognises widening access opportunities to all pupils. 15 Colham Manor pupils were provided with the support to access life-changing experiences in Barcelona, to attend our Culture in the Classroom project. They removed any potential barriers for the children to immerse oneself deeply in the Spanish culture, develop their language and intercultural skills. Thank you Turing!

STEAM Event at Thorpe Park

Combining education for learning and fun - where the reward includes going on rides, our pupils joined 10,000 children via our partnership school ACS in Thorpe Park. We aim to inspire before we educate. The STEAM event was set out as a game which motivated learning in science, technology and the arts. Many children left having identified what they want to do in the future.

Our children joined 5,600 pupils and sang we are the world; we are the children as an appeal to human compassion.

The London Irish St Patrick's Day Choir

The St Patrick's Day game is the biggest event of the season at the London Irish club. Our children joined more than 250 pupils, to sing the popular folk song The Field's of Athenry. It was an amazing performance from our children, celebrating Irish culture and taking part in the London club's history.

World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day, our children took part in many activities throughout the week. Each year group completed a book related task including writing letters to book characters, finishing an ending to a story and creating their own book characters as well as looking at online resources. The work they produced has been proudly displayed in our school for all children and staff to admire.

We were also visited by local author Kerry McGarr who read her debut novel ‘Grateful Greg’ to EYFS and KS1. They enjoyed the storytime and many purchased her book to enjoy with their families at home.

The whole school also participated in ‘The Character Hunt’ workshop. Along with ‘Page Turner’, our children were introduced to a range of characters to explore and create stories for. With a lively session to expand their ideas, it was a lovely experience for our children to discover different ways of using their imagination.

We were so pleased with how much our children enjoyed their week and their enthusiasm for reading created an excitement throughout the school.
