What learning looks like - Our EYFS Curriculum
The teaching of children in ours early years follows the requirements of the ‘Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage’ (EYFS framework). The EYFS framework is mandatory for all early years providers in England and sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well, are kept healthy and safe and have the knowledge and skills they need to start school.
In line with the EYFS framework, we seek to provide:
Quality and consistency in all early years settings.
A secure foundation through the provision and assessment of learning and development opportunities.
Partnership working between practitioners and parents.
Equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice.
Running all the way through our early years setting are the principles that set the intention that;
every child is unique and constantly learning; we aim for them to be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support form adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build there learning over time
children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and families
children develop at different rates and the development, education and care of all children, including children with SEND, is emphasised.
To achieve this, we have implemented a strong emphasis on learning through play. It is our belief that this is the best and most meaningful way for young children to learn. We offer open ended exploratory experiences, and the structure of our day includes periods of uninterrupted play, so that children can get deeply involved in their learning. We see play as fundamental to their communication skills, their self-regulation skills as well as their ability to develop an inquiring mind, to express themselves, to imagine, laugh and have fun.
We set high expectations throughout all areas of school life and beyond and we introduce our children to our school values right at the beginning in Nursery and Reception; REACH.
Respect, Enthusiasm, Ambitious, Courageous, Healthy.
Colham’s values help children understand right from wrong and also help to shape the mind sets and behaviour of future adults. Which is why they are embedded throughout their day to day lives as well as being explicitly taught. At the end of Reception, we want our children to have gained the confidence and skills to make decisions and self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners.
