Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Welcome to Colham Manor
Early Years Foundation Stage
Aspire, Achieve, Thrive
Hello and welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) section of our school website. My name is Miss Williams and I am the EYFS Lead here at Colham Manor Primary School.
We aim for learning in the Early Years to be fun, exciting and full of ambition! We firmly believe that every child is unique, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured, that children learn to
be strong and independent through positive relationships. We believe that children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults who respond to their individual interests and needs and that children benefit from a strong partnership between the school and parents.
Here at Colham Manor, we believe that our children learn best through an inquisitive and explorative approach;
they learn through playing. Through play they can challenge themselves and others, problem solve and work
cooperatively and collaboratively. We see play as fundamental to their communication skills, their self-regulation
skills as well as their ability to develop an inquiring mind, to express themselves, to imagine, laugh and have fun. We aim to deliver our curriculum through a combination of purposefully planned inputs and provision as well as through child-led play. By delivering the curriculum in this approach, every day is different and every day is an adventure. The children’s high levels of involvement mean that they are intrinsically motivated and their play is purposeful; it is a journey which evolves over time with the support of teachers directing purposeful play in their planning, with the learning environments being at the heart of all learning; children will have an innate desire to wonder, discover, create and question.
Our mission at Colham Manor Primary School is to inspire children to achieve more than they ever believed possible.
It is our responsibility in the EYFS to introduce and embed our 5 values;
Respectful, Enthusiastic, Ambitious , Courageous , Healthy
as well as promoting our 3 steps to success;
Nursery - N Newton
In the Nursery (N Newton) we have different session times to help suit your family and we accept the 15 hour & 30 hour codes. Please refer to our prospectus for more information on session times and availability; the link can be found at the top of this page.
The Nursery is split into different groups; Badgers, Hedgehogs, Foxes, Squirrels, Owls, Rabbits & Deer's and will be led by one or more of our highly dedicated Early Years Practitioners as well as myself, a qualified teacher.
Reception
In Reception we have three classes; R Grey-Thompson, R Darwin & R Seacole, all of which have a class capacity of thirty full-time children. Our Reception classes each have their own classroom which are connected by a shared corridor as well as a large outdoor area.
Within each class, children will be split into smaller groups for completing smaller group work sessions.
These groups are; Dragonflies, Ladybirds, Butterflies, Bee's & Caterpillars for our writing sessions and Circles, Triangles, Squares, Rectangles and Pentagons for Maths sessions.
Our Reception classes each have a teacher and the year group shares five early years practitioners, who have a sound understanding of early child development and a wealth of experience working within this age group.
Parents as Partners
We recognise the importance of parental engagement and relationships, understanding just how important it is to share the school experiences your child has with us, with you. Therefore, we use the fully trusted communicative application, Seesaw. Parents have loved having an insight into their child's school day, please take a look at the tab 'Seesaw' to learn more!
I hope this page answers any questions you may have and enables you an insight into our wonderful Early Years Foundation Stage.
I invite you to please browse through our Early Years Prospectus ( please click on the tab at the top of this page) to learn more about us and all that we can offer your family including our curriculum, policy and a meet the teacher page for your little ones to support them joining us here at Colham Manor!
We pride ourselves on being a warm, welcoming school and look forward to working together to aspire, to achieve and to thrive, with the overall wellbeing and best outcomes for all children at the forefront of all of our minds, at all times.
